La leyenda del espacio is the seventh studio album by the Granada pop band Los Planetas, released on April 10, 2007. The album is inspired by the Andalusian musical tradition of flamenco. Each track on the album is an adaptation of a flamenco palo, often directly taking lyrics from traditional cantes. It also features the collaboration of the cantaor Enrique Morente, who lends his voice to the track "Tendrá que haber un camino," a posthumous tribute written by J, the band's vocalist, in memory of Aleix Vergés, also known as Sideral (a member of the defunct Barcelona group Peanut Pie and a DJ), and a personal friend of his.
The album title is a tribute to Camarón de la Isla's La leyenda del tiempo, an album that the band considers to have opened flamenco to rock music, giving a decisive impulse to modern flamenco. With this album, the band aims to do the same but from the opposite side, and for this, they took as a starting point the melodies, structures, lyrics, and sound of traditional Andalusian folklore.
The album reached number 8 on the Spanish sales chart.
It was chosen as the best national album of 2007 by both the editors and readers of Rockdelux magazine. In its November 2009 issue, the same magazine voted it the best national album of the decade. Critics from Babelia, the cultural supplement of the newspaper El País, selected it as thirty-eighth on their list of "The 50 best Spanish albums of the last half-century."
On April 3, 2008, it received recognition as the best national alternative rock album of 2007 at the Music Awards organized by the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Music.
