Vinyl EP Edition.
Cuatro palos is an EP by the Spanish group Los Planetas in homage to the flamenco singer Manolo Caracol, released on December 8, 2009. It includes four songs, each in a different flamenco style.
It reached position 35 among the best-selling songs/singles in its first week of release. It was chosen as single of the year by the editors of Rockdelux magazine. The album begins with "Romance de Juan de Osuna." Muscular, psychedelic, full of feeling, original verses emerge naturally from J, some of which could even pass for his own lyrics: "With how much I loved her, she leaves without looking back." The album's high point, which alone would justify the existence of this sound artifact.
But the rest is not to be underestimated. Adaptations of popular songs like the petenera of "No sale luz esta noche." The tarantos of "Yo le estoy pidiendo a Dios" is perhaps the weakest of the set, but by no means negligible. With playful and fun lyrics, it can only bring a placid smile if one lets oneself be beguiled by this somewhat comical but tragically profound story of heartbreak ("I snuck into your room and I'm going to pay for it with my life"). The EP closes with the powerful, brief, and intense "Tarantos de Perico el Morato."
