Vetusta Morla today releases Figurantes (edited by Pequeño Salto Mortal and distributed under exclusive license by SONY Music Spain), their new album, and seventh studio album.

Figurantes was recorded during breaks from the Cable a Tierra tour  (2022/23), changing the usual condensed composition process for periodic visits to different studios to finish shaping eleven songs that had been on their minds for a while. Tracks that were born with the excitement of knowing themselves to be unique, detached from a prior concept, claiming free flight to grow and be recorded.

We can therefore say that Figurantes is an album of great formal freedom, without red lines, without any a priori marking the direction to follow. Vetusta Morla has used all the instruments, processes, and techniques learned in their more than 25-year career to build this powerful collection of songs.  The band appears sounding like a band: energetic, recording together in the same room and also the band that seeks new production paths in the studio, many of them unknown to the group itself, to always reach the same destination: THE SONG, the best possible song.

Songs that arrived in the midst of the whirlwind of a more than two-year tour through Europe and Latin America. They arrived unexpectedly and ended up becoming fundamental, hence the album's title.

"Figurantes" (extras) are those characters who apparently don't have an important role in a story. They don't come to the proscenium at the end of the show to receive the audience's applause, and the impression they leave on our memory is fleeting. Extras are not necessarily people; gestures, words, places, emotions, and even absences can also be extras. They are the imperceptible backstage of reality and of what happens to us. They are the tesserae of a mosaic that perhaps could be understood if one specific tessera were missing, but by no means if all of them were missing.

Regarding the artwork developed by Boa Mistura for Figurantes and its physical editions, in whose process more than 1,800 Valientes (Vetusta Morla Community) from 13 countries participated, the band commented: The protagonist would be our own audience, who gives meaning to our career, the true Figurantes and protagonists of the songs. For this, we have worked hand in hand with the Boa Mistura studio on an artistic and development line that has led us to hold in our hands the most beautiful objects that, we believe, we have ever created. It has been our audience who has stood up for us.

Boa Mistura is a multidisciplinary team with roots in graffiti, founded in late 2001 in Madrid. Their work is mainly developed in public spaces. The relationship between Vetusta Morla and Boa Mistura dates back to 2017.

The different editions of the physical format: digipack, vinyl, and Collector's Edition - Vetusta Morla & Boa Mistura will be available on June 21, and you can order them here and receive them in 24/48 hours.
