She releases an eclectic work with collaborations from Carlos Vives, Kase.O and R de Rumba, and Fernando Velázquez
Rozalén launches her sixth studio album, 'El Abrazo' (The Embrace), an eclectic work that celebrates universal emotions through thirteen songs that are like thirteen gestures of affection. The album, which arrives in stores this April 26th, covers a wide variety of musical styles, from folklore to electronic, urban, and symphonic, showcasing Rozalén's artistic versatility.
A prominent feature of the album is the collaborations with renowned artists, such as Carlos Vives in ‘Tres Días en Cartagena’ (Three Days in Cartagena), Kase.O and R de Rumba in ‘Mis infiernos’ (My Hells) and the participation of the Euskadiko Orkestra conducted by the celebrated Fernando Velázquez in the beautiful ‘Todo lo que amaste’ (Everything You Loved).
Just as "El árbol y el bosque" (The Tree and the Forest) had many nods to Mexico, this new album shows a strong Colombian influence, inspired by her experiences collaborating with an NGO during her travels through the country. The song with Vives precisely represents an embrace between cultures. The embraces present in this sixth album encompass diverse emotions and situations, and speak about different beings, loves, and griefs. "We embrace joy and also nostalgia. We embrace the absent to be more aware of the here and now," says Rozalén, "happy" to share these displays of affection "in these hostile times."
What begins, what ends, and what transforms... All of this is very present in Rozalén's album, as she clings to simplicity to face life experiences. This is how she narrates different loves: from her ex-partner to her nephew, from her lifelong friends to connections with nostalgia and grief. Including the one caused by the sudden death of her father, to whom she pays tribute with Todo lo que amaste.
The singer and songwriter confesses to being at that stage of life where priorities change, and one returns to the essential. She does so through thirteen ways of saying I love you, thirteen songs like thirteen strokes of affection to complete a work as simple and essential as an embrace.
