On the eve of their performance at Sónar 2025 (Complex +D, 5:45 p.m.), Raül Refree and Niño de Elche present Antes de, the first preview of their new album which, under the title Cru+es, will be released in autumn. Inspired by Yannis Ritsos’ dreamlike verses, the Barcelona-Elche duo explores the boundaries of pop song from the most experimental electronic music. And in turn, it involves the reflections of the Greek poet on the infinitude and transcendence of being in the construction of a track that transforms a canvas full of mathematical rhythms and repetitions that are not, of textures and roughness, of pure color and summer sun, into sound.
We are faced with the perfect preview for an album, Cru+es, which comes after four years of live exploration of mystical ecstasy in a proposal, Ecstasis, that has traveled the world understanding music as a vehicle of supreme abstraction. Experiences treasured without measure and without borders in a new repertoire that, from loving and spiritual exaltation, leads to the transition between noise and silence, between pain and joy, between life and death.
And in concert, Raül Refree and Niño de Elche's performance is – in the deepest sense of the term – a liturgy: a public ritual enveloped in the nuclear blue of Marta Pazos' art direction that was held for the first time on May 30 at the – silent until the thrilling final ovation – Teatro del Centro Cultural Conde Duque (Madrid) and that this very evening will illuminate Sónar. It will be the last opportunity before summer to experience a performance that, starting in October, will make the almost-chorus of Antes de a reality: “No one will talk about us / And we will be everywhere / Smiling”.
