Do you know Klaus Nomi?

Born in 1944 and raised in West Berlin, he loved opera and rock. He emigrated to New York, where he found his artistic expression in local cabarets. His appearance and voice were a reflection of the New Wave scene, with Andy Warhol's post-Factory vibes. His world, filled with 1950s science fiction, his angular black and white appearance and his extraordinary voice earned him a series of performances. It was meeting David Bowie that sparked his career, and Klaus refined his character before leaving on tour in the United States.

Klaus spent time in France promoting his first album (1981), and to say things went well would be an understatement. The Parisian fashion world came to Le Palace to see this unusual character perform. Even the classical scene had no objections and even approved: this first album was a huge success with 300,000 records sold. The more "classical" themes, such as The Cold Song (based on an aria from King Arthur, a 1611 opera by Henri Purcell) were the ones that most attracted the French public. Klaus Nomi died in New York in August 1983, a victim of AIDS, the disease ended the life of this one-of-a-kind artist at the peak of stardom: gold records, ecstatic concert halls and a captivated fashion world.

Between 1979 and 1982, Klaus climbed to the top of the charts before returning to his home planet, wherever that may be...
