Estopa are back and doing it in style. In one of the most anticipated comebacks of recent years, the Muñoz brothers are back on track and present us with "ESTOPÍA", a new album with 12 unreleased tracks. As they celebrate 25 years since the start of their career, the quintessential Spanish music duo recaptures the spirit of their beginnings and treats us to that urban rumba combined with hints of rock, rap, and ranchera. And they do so to create a work that will be one of the fundamental pillars of the celebration of two and a half decades of much more than music.
With Estopía –released today, March 15th– this makes 12 albums published by the Muñoz brothers since that October 18, 1999, when it all began. That day saw the release of Estopa, a benchmark work in our culture that sold over a million copies. The freshness of those songs is very present in ESTOPÍA, which recaptures that genuine and sincere sound, bolstered by 25 years of experience.
The album is released alongside the track Ke más nos da, a song that conveys the essence of what Estopa is: celebration, good vibes, joy, and friendship. The music video was directed by filmmaker Fran Gas, a regular director of many of the videos for the band from Cornellá.
With always poetic, authentic, and direct lyrics –always Estopa–, ESTOPÍA once again features production by David and Jose Muñoz themselves from their Barcelona studio, and Roger Rodés as recording engineer. For the occasion, they wanted to surround themselves, once again, with their long-time musicians who continue to accompany them in their live performances.
The Muñoz brothers say they are returning with unreleased songs because they still have much to tell, as can be seen in the already released tracks. Such is the case of El día que tú te marches, La Rumba del Pescaílla –the first original song sung in Catalan, which pays homage to Antonio González 'El Pescaílla'– and La Ranchera, with its catchy chorus and a display of the band's most mischievous side. This last track also features a music video that narrates their adventures through the streets of Barcelona and has also become the first one directed by David and Jose Muñoz.
ESTOPÍA invites you to travel into the Estopa universe through songs that recreate the iconography of their entire imaginary, that intangible legacy forged over the years and which deserves detailed recognition. Proof of this is the cover created by David Salvador: a clear homage to 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' by El Bosco. Also in the form of a triptych, they present their own interpretation of the destiny of humanity, with sin as the link between the different scenes. Their particular "Garden of Mischiefs."
Recently awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts by the Ministry of Culture, which recognized them as "one of the most outstanding bands in the Spanish music scene," Estopa's career includes other prestigious awards such as the Dial, Los 40, the Ondas, and the Creu de Sant Jordi.
The new work is the central element of the celebration of their 25-year career, but not the only one. In 2024, there will be a '25th-anniversary' tour of large venues, with tickets that went on sale last December and sold out rapidly in the vast majority of cases. The tour will begin in America in April, with visits to Caracas, Miami, Lima, Santiago de Chile, and Buenos Aires. In May, the national legs begin, highlighting the success in cities like Madrid, where the Muñoz brothers will perform at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium, or their hometown, Barcelona, where they have become the first Spanish artist to perform at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. And with a resounding sold out, living up to what is expected of one of the greatest groups in our music.
