The world’s most famous classical music event
On January 1, 2026, maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducted the New Year's Concert from Vienna's world-famous Golden Hall of the Musikverein. It was his first appearance at this event. The live recording of the 2026 New Year's Concert will be released digitally on January 9, on CD on January 16, and on vinyl, DVD, and Blu-ray on January 30. All formats are already available for pre-order.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin, music director of both the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Philadelphia Orchestra, has a long-standing relationship with the Vienna Philharmonic. His program included not only popular pieces but also five rarities, all performed for the first time in this context. These include works by the African-American composer Florence Price (1887–1953) and Josephine Weinlich (1848–1887), founder of the first all-female orchestra in Europe.
Few concerts in the world are awaited with as much excitement as the Vienna New Year's Concert, which is broadcast to more than 150 countries and watched by over 50 million viewers. It has established itself as a key event in the musical calendar for over eight decades, since its inception in 1939.
