The Bob Dylan World Tour 1978 marked the artist's first international concerts since 1966. It was a major international musical event in which Bob Dylan offered 114 concerts in Asia, Oceania, North America and Europe, before a total audience of two million fans.
The tour kicked off with eleven historic performances: Dylan 's first concerts in Japan, eight of them at Tokyo's revered Nippon Budokan Hall. Two of those performances, those on February 28 and March 1, 1978, were recorded on multitrack analog tape and 22 of those performances were included on Bob Dylan At Budokan , a 2-LP album first released in 1978 as exclusive release for Japan, followed by a worldwide release the following year in response to high demand. The Complete Budokan 1978 is the first time that Dylan's complete performances from his 1978 world tour have been officially available.
