To mark the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan's return with The Band to the road in 1974, The 1974 Live Recordings will be released on September 20 as a Deluxe Boxset with 27 CDs. The 1974 Live Recordings includes 417 previously unreleased live recordings, 133 of which have been specially mixed for the occasion from the original 16-track tapes. The Boxset includes a wonderful booklet written by Elizabeth Nelson.
Bob Dylan's 1974 tour marked his return with The Band after eight years off the stage due to a motorcycle accident in 1966. The tour included 30 dates in 42 days (often playing two sets per date) to an average audience of 8,500 people, raising the standards of capacity and sound quality for arena concerts of the time. At that time, Dylan was considered: "(...) the most influential star of the last 10 years in American popular music (...)" according to The New York Times.
Captured in stereo from the soundboard, on both 1/4-inch tape and cassette, David Geffen had also commissioned multitrack tape recordings for the release of "Before the Flood" that same year. Now, The 1974 Live Recordings
includes it all.
