Bob Dylan presents Bootleg Series Volume 18: Through The Open Window, 1956-1963, a new edition of his acclaimed bootleg series. This time, it narrates the story of Dylan's emergence and maturation as a songwriter and performer, from Minnesota to the bohemian Greenwich Village in the early 1960s. It will be released on October 31 in 8-CD format and reduced editions on 4-vinyl or 2-CD; all are available for pre-order starting today, along with the first preview: "Rocks and Gravel."
The 8-CD deluxe box set contains 139 tracks, including never-before-released performances such as recordings made in clubs or informal gatherings, and the complete recording of Dylan's historic performance at Carnegie Hall on October 26, 1963, mixed from the original tapes. It also contains cuts from home recordings and studio outtakes. In addition, it comes with a hardcover book featuring extensive notes by Sean Wilentz and over 100 photographs. Reduced editions with a selection of 42 tracks will also be available in 2-CD or 4-vinyl formats.
A unique account of Dylan's early years, when he honed his talent and transformed traditional folk songs and lyrical sketches into some of his greatest and most enduring songs, including "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'." Many of the recordings are rarities; others have never been presented in any format.
