Description
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the album is remastered from the original tapes by Grammy Award-winning engineer Bob Power and will be re-released with exclusive new remixes created by top hip-hop artists who have recognized A Tribe Called Quest as one of their major influences.
People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm debuted in 1990 and arrived at a crucial moment for hip-hop. These friends who grew up together in the Queens neighborhood—Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White—took the traditional hip-hop formula and threw it out the window. Like their contemporaries De La Soul and The Jungle Brothers—with whom ATCQ would later form the Native Tongues collective—their musical and lyrical influences were unlike any group on the hip-hop scene. While many composed from old soul and funk samples, ATCQ used jazz and 70s rock samples. Their verses invited dialogue instead of confrontation, touching on themes of social consciousness with relaxed frankness and unusual humor.
