CD Edition

New recording by the award-winning ensemble featuring the exceptional polyphonic vocal compositions of German composer Max Reger (1873 - 1916).
Huelgas Ensemble, renowned for over 50 years in medieval and Renaissance polyphonic music, presents its latest album with works by German Romantic composer Max Reger. Led by specialist Paul Van Nevel, the ensemble departs from its usual repertoire of early music to explore Reger's vocal compositions.

The vocal pieces of Max Reger (1873 - 1916), known for his symphonic and organ works, have gone largely unnoticed. Arnold Schönberg described him as "a genius"; Reger himself wrote that he wanted to be a composer "who took your breath away." With this release, Huelgas Ensemble showcases Reger's diversity, from emotionally rich folk song arrangements like "Das Sternlein" and "Ich hab' die Nacht geträumet" to Renaissance-inspired pieces like "Der Mensch lebt und bestehet nur eine kleine Zeit."
