Like its two predecessors, the new record is intensely personal. Its eight tracks run between four and seven minutes - concise by PRR standards - and confront various kinds of darkness. While the band's distinctive style remains, fusing prog and pop through dreamy atmospheres, epic riffs and angelic harmonies, Courtney and Greg Jong have also tried to push the envelope a little further, drawing inspiration from influences such as Talk Talk, Elliot Smith, The Smile and even Arctic Monkeys, in addition to their perennial favorites, especially Pink Floyd. In fact, legendary session musician Guy Pratt, who has worked with Pink Floyd among many other iconic bands, played bass on seven of the eight tracks, and Jon Sykes of The Pineapple Thief played bass on one song.
