Born in the U.S.A. is the seventh studio album by American musician Bruce Springsteen, released in June 1984. It marked Springsteen's return to rock music after releasing Nebraska, a folk-oriented album. However, Born in the U.S.A. maintains Nebraska's lyrical themes by including lyrics about pessimism and isolation, with songs like "Born in the U.S.A." which, although it can be mistaken for a patriotic anthem, contains a critique of the US involvement in the Vietnam War and, specifically, the country's treatment of veterans of that conflict.

Born in the U.S.A. was the best-selling album of 1985 in the United States, as well as Springsteen's most commercially successful work, with fifteen million copies sold in his home country and around thirty million copies globally.
