World premiere recording of a brilliant Baroque opera by the award-winning Dorothee Oberlinger with her Ensemble 1700 and an excellent cast of soloists.
The opera L'Huomo premiered at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth in 1754 to mark the visit of Frederick II; in 2023 it returned to the Bayreuth stage. Wilhelmine of Bayreuth, sister of Frederick II of Prussia, was the librettist for L'Huomo (ambiguously: Man and The Man) and translated it into Italian for the composer Andrea Bernasconi (1706-1784), who worked in Munich at the royal court and whom she commissioned to compose the music. More than two hundred years later and after years of exhaustive research, Dorothee Oberlinger with her Ensemble 1700 and an excellent cast of soloists recorded the work in a world premiere at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth. Its versatile music wonderfully contrasts tragic and humorous elements, all in the moving and captivating style of Italian Baroque opera.
