Bach: Luther-Kantaten received the German Echo Klassik award in the Choral Work Recording of the Year category. The four previous albums of the cantata cycle that Bach wrote between Trinity Sunday 1724 and Easter 1725 received excellent reviews (the albums were called Praise, Eternity, Bach Cantatas and Was mein Gott will). This new and final recording of the 1724/25 choral cantatas is called Bach: Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern, a triple album including cantatas BWV 1, 8, 92, 101, 107, 114, 123, 133, 139. Bach's elaborate plan to write a cycle of choral cantatas was completed with the cantata "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern," BWV 1 from 1725, which stands out for its beautiful and colorful instrumental opening. Equally joyful is the chorus of "Ich freue mich in dir," BWV 133, with its jubilant cascading string movements. "Ach, lieben Christen, seid getrost" BWV 114 is characterized by striking contrasts that are reflected in the lyrics. While a confident theme is derived from the choral melody and appears in the oboes and first violins, an anxious and trembling theme is played by the second violins, the continuo, and the soprano aria.
