"Pearl Jam emerged victorious with Vs. , an album that remains one of the strongest of their long and storied career. Heavier and angrier than their debut, Vs. found the band exploring new sounds and dynamics" - Rolling Stone Magazine

"To date, the second album that demonstrated that the band could do things their own way, a tactic that directly helped make their longevity possible." - Billboard

Pearl Jam arrived like a tidal wave with Ten (1991), emerging as one of the most popular bands in rock music and culture in general. With all eyes on their follow-up, they chose not to hold anything back and deliver Vs. The album shows the group in its rawest state. It traces a journey through insecurity and uncertainty in the face of unwanted fame, it addresses deep issues such as abuse or neurodivergent learning disorders, it raises its middle finger at the obsession with guns and police brutality in the United States, It addressed the topic of suicide, and even managed to shine light with some of the group's most precious hymns. It marked the first of many albums directed by Brendan O'Brien , beginning a partnership with the producer that has now lasted three decades.

Vs. has sold 10 million copies worldwide, and is recognized with 7 platinum records in the US. It broke records by selling more than 950,000 copies during its first five days in stores, eclipsing the sales of the rest of the Billboard Top 10. It remained at #1 on the chart for five weeks, holding the record for "most of albums sold in the first week" for the next five years and set the record for "most vinyl sales in the first week" for the next 20 years.
