Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision, the deluxe box set available in 3CD with 1 Blu-ray, or 5LP with 1 Blu-ray. It includes the feature-length documentary of the same name, plus 39 tracks (38 unreleased) recorded by the new Jimi Hendrix Experience (Billy Cox on bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums) at Electric Lady Studios in the summer of 1970. The documentary Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision (included in the box set) chronicles the creation of the studio, which rose from the ashes of a failing Manhattan nightclub to become a state-of-the-art recording facility. Born from Hendrix's desire for a permanent studio, it was the first artist-owned commercial recording studio. Hendrix had initially envisioned creating an experimental nightclub, but then moved on to the idea of creating a recording studio.
Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision explains in depth that while Hendrix's death deprived the public of his potential music, the continued success of his recording studio is a legacy that extends beyond that. John Lennon, The Clash, AC/DC, Chic, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and hundreds of other artists recorded at Electric Lady Studios.
Jimi Hendrix's New York is an all-new short film that accompanies this massive project and is now available on streaming platforms. Hosted by Steven Van Zandt, it narrates the Seattle musician's meteoric rise in the 60s and his move to Manhattan in the late decade. Interspersed with live footage and photos, it contains exclusive interviews with engineer and producer Eddie Kramer and Hendrix's friend and fashion designer: Colette Harron.
