"NOVELA" is a major musical work that Fito Paez began writing in 1988 and culminates in 2024, seeing the light on March 28, 2025.
In January, Fito Paez presented the first preview of NOVELA with "Cuando el Circo llega al pueblo" (When the Circus comes to town) and in February, "Superextraño" (Superstrange), allowing his fans to savor the beginning of his wonderful and unprecedented new work. Now with the release of NOVELA, we discover "Sale el Sol" (The Sun Rises), the colorful focus track that puts an end to the grand story.
"NOVELA" is a musical and cinematic work that, in chaotic, complicated, and disheartening times, takes us to a world of illusions and love. Using the premise of how learning to live in a remote village in the province of Santa Fe (Argentina) affected young people - and his own life - Fito Paez created a magical universe told in cinematic and album format, through 25 unreleased songs that narrate an extraordinary story with original characters of rebellious and passionate spirit. Composed by Fito Paez and produced by Paez himself, Gustavo Borner, and Diego Olivero and recorded between Abbey Road, London and Sony Music 5020 Studios in Madrid, "Novela" is a work of art of infinite dimensions that will leave no one indifferent. As part of the 25 tracks that make up the work, there are texts brilliantly performed by the wonderful actress, playwright, and film director, Lorena Vega.

The Story
Prix University is a prestigious institution dedicated to witchcraft. It is located in TON 618, the largest supermassive black hole in the universe. It holds sixty billion solar masses in its inner stomach. The monster of all monsters. It is ten billion light-years from Earth, about one hundred thousand times the diameter of the Milky Way. In other dimensions.
Human customs differ from Prixian ones. Chairs do not exist. Tables and beds, neither. Food is not ingested, it is imagined. Bodies are amorphous, some with human similarities. Beings with legs walk, others fly or crawl, depending on their biological characteristics. Some have eyes, others do not. There are camels with phone heads. Short-necked giraffes with monkey ears. Useless cans with bowed legs that moo like cows. Lizards with arms and hands similar to humans. Lazy androids with feathered wings. There is never rest. It is not necessary. It is not allowed. Time is a volatile, flexible matter.
Rectitud Martirius is the harsh and implacable rector of Prix University. A classic witch by the book, her skin is scalded with pus-filled pimples. A nose so long it almost eats itself. A witch's hat like a rag-tag, a dirty broom always by her side, like an imperial staff, and a brown suit that hides her long feet and rat tail. She has a booming voice that makes the spaces tremble when she shrieks or shouts her scoldings, which is almost all the time.
Maldivina and Turbialuz are the star little witches of Prix University. Envied by all for their excellent grades, despite their terrible behavior. They are two carefree young women. Beautiful and intelligent. Tender and ruthless. Maldivina is a blonde girl with blue eyes, and Turbialuz, a dark-haired young woman with black eyes. As quarrelsome as the worst. They are Rectitud Martirius's nightmare. Tired of tolerating their bad habits and behavior, Rectitud Martirius, with the approval of the senior council of witches, decides to assign them the most difficult exam at Prix University: the creation of a perfect romance in distant lands.
Loka, a teenager with a sweet gaze and irresistible beauty, is the protagonist of the romance and main heroine along with Jimmy, a tender and wild teenager who plays guitar and is the singer of the rock band "Los James Dean," the other protagonist of this love story.
Jimmy lives in Villa Constitución in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. He is our young hero guitarist, orphaned by both mother and father. He lives with his kind aunt Charito in a typical late 19th-century "casa chorizo" located across from the town square. Charito: is a woman of nearly fifty, addicted to the pills provided by her lover, Don Ignacio Chantoni, the town's pharmacist and "psychiatrist."
On the other hand, we find Jok, owner of Circo Beat and Loka's father. A rough man, about fifty years old, who looks two decades older. A thin mustache like a movie villain, stout, sharp eyes as black as night. The Circo Beat is an old organism full of old stories and feuds of all kinds. It is stopped in the middle of a biblical-sized storm on Route 9 in the province of Santa Fe, in the town of Arroyo Seco.
Inside Jok's Circo Beat, we find Julius: the tamer of starving tigers. He is a handsome man with an angular, semi-bearded face marked by furrows that have aged with gin. He has an old rivalry with Jok. Both were in love with the same woman, Loka's mother, who eventually chose Jok between the two men who attracted her. One night, in an unfortunate episode, Loka's mother dies crushed by the circus elephants.
Many characters are not what they seem. In cinema as in life. The story will unfold over approximately one hour for the listener. Between a chicken coop serving as a rehearsal room, a church transformed into a modern inquisition building, a dilapidated tent, Prix University, eccentric circus characters from different social backgrounds and nationalities, a respectable brothel, scoundrels of all kinds, an elusive storm, and two young people who want to escape their family destinies and leave a small provincial town whose inhabitants can transform into a wild human pack in the blink of an eye.
This story will unfold in a timeless space. Electronic devices will have to be turned off to enjoy this fantastic tale. In a world that is only occupied with annulling imagination, installing the gene of domestication and poisoning the vitamins of rebellion.
NOVELA Characters
Fantastic adventures, disturbing cabarets. Dark and freak neighbors. Characters with anxieties, tragedies, lights and shadows, who live their days on the border between a town and a poor circus that defines the antagonism and staging of daily life and their reaction to supernatural events that constantly occur, among them, the appearance of love.
"NOVELA" is spearheaded by the song "Sale el sol" (The Sun Rises), the track that sets the pace for the story's climax. After the town was victim to a crazed mob trying to lynch Jimmy and Loka, right where the journalist wanted the scoop, the priest an exorcism, and the police to arrest them, the final blackout approaches.
Amidst chaos and disorder, Loka resists, and Jimmy manages to rescue her, aided by Charo and the band members. With the town still hot from the fervor of the ruins, Julius loses everything, and the circus leaves town. Then, what was ash gray illuminates. The course changes abruptly: The sun rises.
It is the end of the journey, of the film, of the story. Everything is positive. Images follow one another with rainbows, the circus animals in freedom, and the happiness of Jimmy and Loka, as the Circo Beat retreats down a dirt road.
"Sale el sol" is the positive song, the one that shows that everything is destroyed and rebuilt. Even though life on the streets was and will continue to be full of hope with terrible storms, love triumphed. "Sale el Sol" comes with an impressive music video produced by Antiestático.

In turn, the presentation of this new album will be a strong proof of Páez's relevance, who, at 61 years old, continues to demonstrate that his energy, freshness, and artistic creativity remain intact.
After celebrating 30 years of "El amor después del amor" and, later, three and four decades of "Circo Beat" and "Del 63" with memorable dates at the José Amalfitani Stadium (Vélez Sarsfield), UNO (Estudiantes de La Plata) and an endless series of shows at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, among others, Fito is aiming for more. In 2021, his album "La conquista del espacio" won a GRAMMY® Award at the 63rd ceremony for
"Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album" (his second nomination, 20 years after "Abre" in 2000).
Among his most recent albums, the multi-award-winning "La conquista del espacio" stands out, as well as the trilogy "Los años salvajes", an immense work composed of three episodes that show different facets of Páez's musical art: the album of new songs with his band that gives it its title, "Futurología Arlt", an orchestral album inspired by the literature of the great Argentine writer Roberto Arlt, and "The Golden Light", in which, only with his piano, he performs original compositions in an intimate setting.
The Latin Recording Academy awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021, in recognition of the exceptional artistic importance of his creative contributions to recorded music throughout his career.
Among multiple nominations, he has received 11 Latin GRAMMY Awards®, in addition to countless awards and distinctions received across the continent throughout his career.
Since September 2022, the "El Amor 30 Años Después Del Amor" Tour has marked a milestone in Argentina, with 8 sold-out shows at the Movistar Arena Buenos Aires that year and over 70,000 people selling out tickets during two historic nights at the Vélez Sarsfield Stadium in early April 2023. The tour celebrating one of the most transcendental works of his career continued touring the interior of his country, and adding international destinations in cities in the United States, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Venezuela.
He is also a screenwriter and director of two films: "Vidas Privadas" and "De Quién Es El Portaligas". Additionally, he is the author of 4 books published throughout America: "La Puta Diabla", "Diario De Viaje", "Los Días De Kirchner" and "Infancia y Juventud".
Netflix presented the series "El amor después del amor," a fiction based on the life of Fito Páez. Being one of the most prominent releases in the entire region, it has topped the ranking of most-watched content on the platform, with great repercussions in the media and trending on social media.
The recording of the new version of the classic album of the same title began in August 2022 in Los Angeles, with Páez accompanied in production by Gustavo Borner and Diego Olivero. "The idea was to transform it, revisit it and do new things," declared the artist from Rosario, who recorded original new versions for this unforgettable repertoire, with a truly contemporary perspective. Accompanied by great musicians, it features luxury guests from various latitudes and generations.
Titled EADDA9223, the acronym is formed by the initials of the original album, El Amor Después Del Amor, adding the last two digits of its release year, 1992, and of the current launch, 2023.
After performing in March at the Vive Latino Mexico festival, 2024 found him based in Madrid, developing "Novela," his next studio material, which will also have its own film. From Spain, he traveled to the emblematic Abbey Road studio in London, where he began recording the album, alongside Gustavo Borner and Diego Olivero in production. It was five wonderful days, featuring the musical commitment and sessions of Ian Thomas on drums (who has worked with Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger, among others), Adam Goldsmith on guitars (Gloria Estefan, Seal, Robbie Williams), and violinist Everton Nelson (Ryuichi Sakamoto). The circuit continued in the 5020 studios in Madrid, where the recording was completed in July, after six months of hard work.
In parallel, he conceived and worked on the live presentation of the anniversary of two of his most outstanding albums: "Del 63" and "Circo Beat." Finally, under the name "Páez 4030," these two emblematic albums of his career were celebrated, commemorating 40 years since the release of his first album "Del 63" and 30 years of the iconic "Circo Beat."
Thus, while working on new material, Fito Páez revisited his history with a current perspective on these two works that have marked generations and become anthems of rock in Spanish. November was the month that initiated this exclusive encounter with these albums, with a cascade of shows at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, also Rosario, Córdoba, Santiago de Chile, and Montevideo (Uruguay), were able to enjoy these unique moments.
He begins 2025 by resuming the "El amor después del amor" tour with concerts pending from 2024 in his beloved Mexico: two shows at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, one in Guadalajara, and the eagerly awaited massive event in Zócalo, which will bring together both city dwellers and those from the Valley of Mexico.
